The Masters - pt. 1

Whether it's good or bad, I cheered for Tiger Woods this weekend.

The first time in a long time.  Doing so brought many thoughts to my mind about living in a fallen world and where my place is in it.

Once I really liked watching Tiger Woods golf.  Every shot you were hoping for one of the most amazing things you had ever seen, whether a 350+ yard drive, an iron shot that stopped inches from the pin, or a putt that circulated around an entire green to fall in.  These shots are the reason that I loved watching Tiger.

I stopped watching Tiger when it came out he was a "cheetah" (sorry, I had to).  Not just because his golf game was awful, but because I felt like I would be supporting athletes that have "moral failings."  I literally tuned him out of my life.  Checked scores every once in a while to see how badly he was doing, almost as if to say...that's what you get!  There are other athletes I've done this with.  Shawn Merriman of the San Diego Chargers and steroids, Tony Parker of the San Antonio spurs and his sexual indescretion.

It is such a big deal for athletes because cameras follow them constantly.

We ask ourselves, why can't he just stay focused on golf and his wife? Why is it so hard for athletes to say NO to the girls that chase them? Don't they love their wives!? THEY ARE SO SELF FOCUSED!

So are we!

What would a camera see if it followed you or I around constantly?  It may not be that you cheat on your wife with umpteen girls or abuse substances.  It might be that you pass by people in need.  You exaggerate your life to make yourself sound better.  I know that I don't want a camera watching everything I do, I still sin.

People will say that stars need to be held to a higher standard since more people are watching them.  As much as I agree with that, as parents we need to be held to the highest standard!  If Tiger Woods messes up his personal life your kids aren't affected.  If Tiger Woods lies to his wife, your kids don't see that and respond to it.  IF you lie to your spouse and your kids see that, it will affect them.

I'm not saying that it's anywhere close to ok that Tiger cheated on his wife.  I'm just saying lets set our own lives to a higher standard so that those watching us don't get dissapointed, hurt, or tune out completely!
